I’ve just uploaded another website to CessnaConquest.net. It’s a web based ground reference for pilots of the Cessna 441 Conquest. The generic engineering and systems website is designed to assist pilots undertaking Conquest type ratings/endorsements; or it can be used as a systems refresher for those pilots that fly it.
The Conquest is a brilliant aircraft, and one that I never tired of flying. Cessna (‘strategically’) positioned the aircraft between the larger twin-engine Cessna fleet and that of their smaller jet offering. The Conquest was such a brilliant performer that it severely compromised Cessna’s ability to sell their jets, so they prematurely, and sadly, ceased production.

The presentation of the course will look somewhat familiar. I’ve used a template that I’ve shamefully used a thousand times before. Why? Because it’s quick, easily customizable… and it works. When I rushed to put this template together a few years ago I would have never guessed that I would still be using it every now and again today. When people start complaining I’ll probably set aside a few hours so I can work on something a little different. Until then – deal with it
Using a mix of familiar code enables me to very quickly deploy general websites without the need to concentrate too heavily on design.
This was one of those sites I put together, literally, over a few hours – so enhanced functionality will come over time. If I have a positive response to this type of ground school website I’ll add a range of other aircraft types that I flew and prepared training course notes for. Many other similar sites are ready to be uploaded pending motivation.
Websites like these are actually quite a valuable resource. They provide necessary information to pilots undertaking training and supply qualified pilots with a good ongoing reference. Despite the fact that it really is good information, part motivation for building it was derived from the fact I could use the platform to leverage the popularity of other projects, promote an upcoming aviation podcast, and it provides another targeted means of paid banner-style advertising.
Visitation from the first day of its life on the web was quite high – translating into an immediate income sourced exclusively via Adsense.
The site ranked as number 1 in Google after the first week for a number of search terms, due primarily to its very limited niche market. At the time of writing the site has existed for less than two weeks.
Given the surprisingly large number of page-views in its first few weeks of operation, it’s likely that this site will be developed into more of a robust and social resource in the near future.
